Mid-summer solstice celebrations among the Celts

To better understand why the ancient Celts (Kelts) celebrated the summer solstice, it is rather helpful to start by dissecting the word ‘solstice’ itself.

The word ‘solstice’, is a joint Latin term.  ‘Sol’, is ‘sun’ in English; and ‘stice’ means ‘to stand still’ during the longest day of the year.
